Your Students' Union - Strength In Numbers

As a student at the College of New Caledonia, you are also a member of the College of New Caledonia Students' Union (Local 13 of the Canadian Federation of Students), an autonomous, democratic organization made up entirely of students. When you registered for classes and paid your tuition fees to CNC, you also paid a membership fee to help finance the operations of your Students' Union.

As a member, you are a part of a significant organisation that undertakes advocacy and campaigns, as well as offer social events and services for CNC students. The CNC Students' Union was created to give students a united and independent voice in representing their interests on a variety of decision-making bodies at CNC as well as to the local/regional, provincial and federal levels of government.

You are also part of a long history of student organising and activism at the College. Your CNC Students' Union, first established by students in 1978, is fully incorporated as a non-profit society under the Society Act of British Columbia and is recognized by the Ministry of Advanced Education as the students' union of CNC.

Members can access many of the services offered as well as information and resources through the Students' Union Offices located on the Prince George and Quesnel campuses. All members are welcome and encouraged to contact or visit the office and use the various services, even just to say "hi" to your elected representatives and Students' Union staff!

Representatives are elected each spring to conduct the affairs of the Students' Union. You can get involved by:

  • voting in elections , and attending Executive Committee meetings;
  • attending General Meetings to learn more about and direct the work of your Students' Union;
  • volunteering with one of the Students' Union committees;
  • seeking appointment to a College committee for the Students' Union;
  • running for an elected position on the Executive Committee;
  • running for an elected position on the College Board of Governors or the Education Council;
  • visiting the nearest Students' Union Office to ask questions, express your point of view and to find out what is happening on campus;
  • helping with the various social events and political/awareness campaigns held during the year.
Remember that your CNC Students' Union isn't just the elected representatives - it's made up of every single student studying at CNC, and it takes members like you to keep it running effectively! For more information on your Students' Union and how you can GET INVOLVED please visit the nearest Students' Union Office!
