How can someone stop procrastinating? It’s not Newton’s theory to understand, yet students often procrastinate simply because they believe they have enough time. However, time passes quickly before they even realize it. I just want to remind my fellow friends—and myself—that in a few days, we are entering a crucial phase of our studies. This is our chance to showcase our potential and determine whether we will pass as we intended on the first day of the semester or face the alternative—paying the fees again!
I know it’s not easy for everyone to afford the same course twice, so the ball is in your court. Get off the couch and put in the hard work—or at least some smart, ethical effort! What I suggest may not appeal to everyone, but I hope some of you can relate and learn from it, just as I am on this journey.
How learning strategies can develop your way of learning and get you a straight “GPA of 4”
There are countless ways to improve yourself in any task, so when it comes to studying, it’s just a piece of cake! So, let’s begin. Have you heard about “Jun Yuh,” a digital content creator and influencer who is pursuing his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees simultaneously? It’s impressive, isn’t it? Compared to this, most of us are in a much safer position — we only need to complete two years of studies here. As I begin this journey, my request is simple: let this be a source of motivation for you. Your dedication will naturally transform into discipline.
321 method: Count down from 3 to momentarily free yourself from the battle between your mind and body. On 1, immediately move on to the next task without giving yourself time to second-guess. This helps you overcome the initial friction more easily. Also, the five-minute rules Pomodoro technique serves a similar purpose to reduce the initial friction to prevent any procrastination.
Parkinson’s Law: Work tends to expand the time allocated for it. Therefore, if you give yourself too much time for a deadline, you will find yourself severely procrastinating. Instead, set yourself micro deadlines along the way in your revision timetable!
Feynman techniques: Active recall will help you make the most out of your time and the Feynman technique is one of my favourite techniques. When you attempt to explain the concept so that a fifth-grade student can understand, you will naturally simplify, group and recognize the materials while also creating examples/analogies.
Priming: Your ability to deeply learn new information improves when you grasp the general picture even before class as this enables you to connect new information with existing knowledge. Preparing your understanding starts with previewing your resources then making a visual overview and doing a pretest assessment. You should not waste your valuable time becoming a beginner again since you already gained sufficient knowledge in that area. Your time is way too precious to start learning from scratch!
Second brain: The act of staying organized permits you to obtain maximum success in your student career. Develop a single workspace within your second brain system to follow your assignments and notes and record weaknesses and strengths along with questions for every class. I'd recommend notion!
I am really into Pomodoro techniques because give your best 25 minutes to learn something and 5 minutes of break in between the next active section is the best thing but still I am trying to learn Second Brain techniques, so I hope you guys can find your way of cracking the best score using any of these tools. All the best all my fellow friends for your exams! We will meet again when you realize it’s the first time not scared of exam season since you followed these methods, THE WAR IS OVER!
