CNCSU Fee Breakdown

Similar to virtually every students' union in Canada, the College of New Caledonia Students' Union is primarily funded by member dues. CNC students pay these dues to the students' union and the British Columbia Federation of Students' at the same time as they register for classes and pay tuition fees. As per the College & Institute Act of BC and the students' union's Constitution and Bylaws, all dues have been voted on by CNC students through our referendums.

Students' Union Membership Fee

The Students' Union Membership fee is collected each semester to fully fund or subsidize local services, events and operational costs. This fee is what makes it possible for us to work for you!

BCFS Membership Fee

The BCFS Membership Fee gets you membership to the British Columbia Federation of Students. The BCFS provides provincial- and nation-wide advocacy, bargains together for student extended Health and Dental plans, and helps train elected representatives and staff. The BCFS does a lot!

Student Newspaper Fee

The Student Newspaper Fee is collected to fund the Confluence. The Confluence is a student-run magazine that is meant to showcase the works and talents of students at the College of New Caledonia as well as be a platform for information and announcements.

Student Union Building Fee

Originally these dues were being specifically used for the construction, furnishing and maintenance of a stand-alone students' union building on the Prince George campus. As authorized in a referendum, this fee is also used to fund a future Student and Cultural Centre at CNC.

Student Union U-Pass Fee

These dues are used to fund the Universal Bus Pass, which gives all members unlimited access to the BC Transit bus systems in Prince George and Quesnel. The founding principle that led to the creation of this system was to give all students to ability to have a cost-friendly option to get to class. This U-PASS also allows free entry into the PG Aquatic Centre and the Canfor Leisure Pool in Prince George.

Health and Dental Fee

This is assessed to full-time students and those enrolled in vocational programs that are 14 weeks or longer for the purpose of providing affordable extended health and dental benefits. If you are studying in Quesnel, or a part-time student, you will not be automatically assed this fee.

Recreation Fee

This is only assessed to Prince George students and is in place to subsidize weight room and gymnasium access for students at the Prince George campus, and to ensure student access and programming.

Sustenance Fee

The sustenance fee is collected each semester, and the funds go directly to sustenance initiatives such as the food bank, food-oriented events, and other events/services that improve the quality of life for students on campus.
